Bonjour,

This morning, some men came to work on the cement slab out back. It
rained off and on all morning, but they were able to get the cement
poured. Gilbert and Danny kept going out to check on their progress.
Both boys had to find their little rakes and shovels so that they could
work too. Then, Gilbert came in looking for some work gloves. He was
disappointed that we didn’t have any for him.

The attendance at VBS was down from yesterday due to the rain, but they
had a good day with those who did come.

After naps, we went into Abidjan. We took Lenell to buy her stove.
Then, Joe took us to Akle for supper. They have very good chicken
strips. We got a few groceries and then headed home.

The boys went over to help Joe and the guards load Lenell’s refrigerator
up to take to her apartment tomorrow. She is planning to officially
move in on Monday. We will miss having her close by, but we are glad
that she can move into her apartment after she has worked so hard to get
it ready.

Bonnie slept quite a bit today. We will see how she does tonight.

Bonjour,

Today is my 33rd birthday. Thank you for all of the cards, calls, and
e-mails that I received!

The Anyama church is having VBS today through Saturday. Joe preached
this morning. There were 130 children in attendance today. Joe is
going to take me out for lunch one day next week since things are a bit
hectic today and throughout the weekend.

When Gilbert woke up this morning, he told me, “Happy Birthday.” Then,
right away, he said, “Where’s the birthday, Mom? We need to eat it.” I
told him that we would have to make a cake before we could eat it.

We are in the process of draining the pool. Somehow grass has grown up
through the bottom of the pool. It came through a foot of sand, a tarp,
and the pool liner. So, we are going to put a cement slab underneath
the pool instead of sand. I took the boys out to play in the pool for a
little bit while Bonnie was taking her morning nap. They thought it was
great to be able to stand up in the pool.

We came in to make pizza for lunch and to make a birthday cake. After
lunch, Gilbert helped me make the frosting for the cake; Danny was
asleep. It was a fudge frosting that requires a lot of stirring. He
would stir for awhile and then tell me that it was my turn to stir.
After we got the cake frosted, we went to take a nap. Danny woke up
before we did. Joe got him out of bed. Danny was playing nicely in the
living room. Joe got a phone call and went to the office to answer it.
When he came back out, Danny had discovered the cake on the dining room
table. He had a handful of cake in both hands. Joe just looked at him
for a minute. Joe said that Danny’s head got lower and lower. Then, he
said, “I did it, Daddy.”

Margie called and asked if I could come over around 6:00 with the kids.
I thought that Margie and Lenell had something up their sleeves. Joe
acted like he was going to stay at the house, but he wasn’t too far
behind us. Lenell and Margie had a surprise party for me. They made
supper and a cake and had a big banner and balloons up. Gilbert and
Danny wanted a balloon right away, but they had to wait until after the
cake and presents.

It was a good birthday.

Bonjour,

Joe went visiting this morning. They had some good visits. Romeo
killed a big snake today while they were out visiting. Everyone in the
neighborhood cheered for him. While he had a captive audience, he
invited everyone to church.

I worked on lunch preparations. The Machs came for lunch today. After
lunch, some of the kids went swimming. Becky, Bobby, and I worked on
an instrumental special for tonight. Becky played the violin; Bobby
played Joe’s guitar, and I played the clarinet.

Bob Mach preached at Belleville tonight. We played our special before
the message. He preached a good sermon. At the end of the service,
Romeo asked us to play another song during the offering. We had worked
on another song a little bit; so, we did that one. There were 38 in
attendance tonight.

Danny was very grouchy because he didn’t take much of a nap. Becky took
him outside so that I could hear the sermon. I ended up with Gilbert
and Bonnie in my lap. They both fell asleep. Gilbert hadn’t taken a
nap at all today. He was too busy playing with Luc. Everyone was ready
for bed this evening. Well, I thought I had Bonnie asleep; but, I hear
her again now.

Bonjour,

We left the house at 7:00 this morning to head to Bassam. Lenell went
with us. We stopped to pick up Bobby Mach in town. He went to spend
the day with Jimmy Post for his birthday celebration. (Jimmy’s
sixteenth birthday is tomorrow.)

Joe dropped us off at the Posts. He and Dan went to Bonoua to go
visiting. A new convert from Dan’s church went with them. He was very
excited about going visiting. He works at the port in Abidjan and is in
charge of unloading all of the ships. He got saved as a result of
seeing the change in his cousin’s life after she got saved. They had
some good visits today.

Gilbert and Danny had a great time playing with the boys. Justin and
Gilbert are buddies. Danny found plenty to keep himself entertained.
Someone put him in the airplane swing outside, and he just wanted to
stay there. He didn’t even want to come in for lunch. I had to go get
him out.

Everyone took turns holding Bonnie. I brought the playpen. She did get
a couple short naps in. Nathan and Isaac both really like to hold her.

Lenell and I helped Jennifer get things ready for fajitas. That was
what Jimmy had requested for lunch. The guys grilled the meat when they
got home. Lunch was delicious. We had cake and homemade icecream for
dessert.

Around 16:00, we headed into Abidjan. Dan wanted to take the boys to
the go-cart place for Jimmy’s birthday. Lenell, Bonnie, and I went to
get a few groceries. Jennifer wanted to stay to watch the boys ride the
go-carts. They all had a blast. Joe rode too. He took a turn with
Gilbert and Danny; they both thought that it was great.

Joe took everyone out for pizza for supper. We all had a good time of
fellowship. There was a place for the kids to play while the food was
being prepared; that was nice.

We got home at 21:00. Everyone is tired and ready for bed except for
Bonnie. She is still awake.

Bonjour,

We spent the day at home today. We got some things done around the
house. Joe worked in the office. The boys played outside for awhile.

Tammy brought her vehicle to Anyama to have the air conditioning worked
on. So, the children and I went over to see Tammy and Lenell for a
little while before lunch.

After lunch, everyone took a nap. After naps, the children and I went
for a walk with Margie. Lenell had gone into Anyama with Tammy and
wasn’t back yet. They got back just as we got back from our walk. The
boys went to play with Precious for awhile.

Bonjour,

We had a good day at church today. There were 84 in attendance this
morning. We had 28 in each class.

Next week will be Lenell’s last Sunday morning to come to Belleville.
She has been helping out there until I got ready to start teaching the
class again. She will be playing the piano at the Anyama church for all
of their services. We will miss her; she has been a big help and a
blessing.

Joe preached this evening. We had 19 in attendance tonight. It was a
good service.

Bonjour,

This morning, we all went visiting with Joe. We visited a couple more
of the ladies in the church. Joe drove us to the different stops today
because one of the ladies lives up on the hill behind the church; he
didn’t think we’d want to walk that far.

Marina was the first lady that we saw. Her children have been sick.
She said that when one gets better, the next one gets it. She had taken
the baby to the doctor yesterday. Gilbert and Danny like to play with
him; his name is Danny too. Her little girl was sick today. Marina’s
neighbors all came out to see the baby. They were tickled that white
people had come to their courtyard.

Marcel wasn’t at the church this morning. He usually goes visiting with
Romeo. So, we stopped at his house, but he wasn’t home. I met his
parents today. They were so happy that we all came. Marcel’s mother
wanted to hold Bonnie, but Bonnie was asleep in her pouch. She didn’t
want to wake Bonnie up.

Then, we stopped to see the Kesses. Mr. Kesse still isn’t doing very
well. He has lost a lot of weight and still doesn’t always make sense
when he is talking. Mrs. Kesse looked very tired. She hasn’t been able
to come to church since her husband got sick because she can’t leave him
at home by himself. Mr. Kesse hadn’t been letting the children come to
church, but some of them were there on Wednesday night.

Danny and Gilbert were tired. So that was the end of our visits for
today. Danny is still working on a tooth and isn’t feeling too great today.

The children and I took naps this afternoon. Joe worked in the office.
After naps, the children and I went for a walk with Margie and Lenell.
The boys went to play with Precious for awhile when we got back home.

Thank you for praying for Margie Engelhart’s dad. He did get a
pacemaker put in; there weren’t any complications the second time. He
is at home now.

Bonjour,

This morning, Joe took the boys over to stay with Margie. We went with
Lenell up to her apartment to get everyone squared away for the day up
there. Then, we headed to Abidjan.

Lenell didn’t get her hair cut last week when we got the highlights
done. The beautician had told her to come back this week to get it
cut. So, we went there first. Joe dropped us off and went and walked
around the golf course that isn’t far from the beautician’s apartment.
Alima finished styling Lenell’s hair and wanted to style mine too. She
even put a little ponytail holder on top of Bonnie’s head. It fell out
before we got home; so, I didn’t get a picture. Joe got there right as
she had finished.

From there, we headed to the downtown area to take Lenell to look at
stoves. We went to several different places so that she would have an
idea of what is available. One of the stores was closed during lunch
hours. So, we ate lunch at a restaurant that we hadn’t tried before.
The food was okay. Then, we went to look at the other store.

Joe tried to take us for a milkshake on the way home. The restaurant
had moved to a different building while the other building is being
renovated. After we got seated, we found out that they didn’t have much
to offer in the way of flavors. So, we decided to head on home.

We went back to Lenell’s apartment to check on the progress there. The
guys still weren’t finished. So, Lenell stayed for a little while
longer. We went back to the house to get the boys. They were happy to
see us. They were just about to take Charlie on a walk with Margie.
So, Bonnie and I joined them. Joe made supper while we were gone.

When Lenell got back this evening, she let the boys come over for a
little while to play with Precious. She will be moving up to her
apartment next week. We will miss having her close by, but she won’t be
too far away.

Bonjour,

This morning, we all went up to Lenell’s apartment. Joe wanted to be up
there today to make sure that the plumber/electrician worked all day.
It was the first full day of work that the guy has put in yet. He
almost got everything finished today. He just has a couple things to
finish tomorrow.

Lenell put some things up on the walls. I told her when they were
straight. Then, we did some cleaning. We wiped down the walls and
baseboards. Then, we mopped the floors and put the rugs down. Her
water was on today for the first time. The only thing she needs to get
before moving in is a stove. Her apartment is looking very nice.

Gilbert and Danny like to help. We kept trying to find things to keep
them occupied. Danny took a nap in the afternoon. Gilbert had a great
time with a little broom and dustpan. He had to come and show us each
time that he collected anything. He also helped mop. Then, he helped
me do some dishes. He was the rinser.

Lenell, the children, and I went home about 16:00. Joe stayed until
19:00. The boys and I went swimming while Bonnie lay in her playpen.
She got upset; that ended our swimming.

We went for a walk with Lenell and Margie. The boys went to play with
Precious while I got supper ready.

Both boys went to bed early tonight. Gilbert fell asleep on the couch.

Bonjour,

Joe went visiting this morning. He had to take care of a couple
problems again today. When they got back to the Anyama church, he had
to deal with a problem with the guy working on Lenell’s apartment. That
took awhile. He got home about 2:00.

The boys were grouchy this morning. They must have still been tired
from their long day yesterday. They were much happier after their naps.

After lunch, I had given Danny a piece of cake. Gilbert didn’t want
any. When Danny had eaten about half of the piece of cake, he said,
“Spicy, Mama!” He has been saying that when things aren’t really
spicy. So, I told him that it wasn’t spicy and to go ahead and eat it.
He took a couple more bites and then got down. When I went to clean up
his place, I realized that he had gotten the pepper shaker and dumped
pepper on his cake. I guess it was a bit spicy!

Bonnie took a good nap this morning and again this afternoon. She has
been awake all evening.

Church went well tonight. There were 28 in attendance. Joe preached
tonight. I was in the nursery.
