Cake Anyone?

Harriett wanted to learn to make and decorate cakes. I am not a very
good cake decorator, but we gave it a whirl. My decorating tips are
still in Ivory Coast. So, we just used a ziploc bag. It turned out
okay for our first try.

On this day twenty-eight years ago, I made the most important decision ever.  I accepted Jesus as my Savior.  I remember being scared all the way home from church that night that we might have a wreck before we got home.  As soon as we got home, I went into the living room and told my dad that I needed to get saved.  I am thankful for godly parents!  I guess it is my seventh spiritual birthday in leap years.
Joe took the kids to school.  He said that Bonnie was being the teacher on the way there.  She would tell them what to do and tell them to start.  Then, she would tell them when to stop.  She said, “Say ‘Yes Madam’ to me!”  I think she will definitely be a teacher some day!
Two ladies had planned to come over this morning to learn how to make cakes.  One was not able to come.  The other one came about an hour later than planned due to heavy rains.  We had a good time, and I think Harriett really enjoyed it.  She was already asking about other things that she wants to learn to do.
The kids had a good day at school.  The power was off for a while, but it came back on there.
The power was off all night last night.  It came back on for ten minutes this morning.  It has been off all day and is still off.  It was off all over town last night.  But, there must be a problem in our area now.  We had power at church tonight but still not at home.
We had a good evening at church.  We took the cake that Harriett and I made to church tonight.  Everyone liked that!

I am feeling better today.  I just get tired quickly.  So, I have to pace myself.  But, the medicine seems to be working.
Joe took the kids to school.  He did some work on the computer this morning.  This afternoon, he went into town to run a couple errands before he picked the kids up from school.
We had a big storm this afternoon.  The power went off for a while.  We thought we were going to get by without “load shedding” tonight because the power did not go off at the normal time, but it went off about an hour later than usual and is still off.
I asked Bonnie if she got in trouble today.  She said, “No, I was just falling asleep during ‘My Baby Can Read.’ So, the teacher had me stand up and jump to wake up.”  Then, she had to demonstrate jumping for me.
A couple ladies from the church are coming tomorrow morning to learn how to make and decorate a cake.  I am not a great decorator, but we will surely come up with a great creation.  I made a cake tonight so that we can work on frosting and decorating it after we get a cake baking.

I got sick last night and was up most of the night.  Danny came in at 3:00 and thought that it was time to get up.  He said, “Mom, you forgot to make lunches for school.”
Joe got up and made the lunches and breakfast.  He got the kids ready for school and took them to school.
It seems that the cellulitis from the bite a couple weeks ago has returned.  We talked to a doctor in the States and described the symptoms.  He said that I should take an antibiotic for a longer period of time.  A couple hours after I started taking the antibiotic, I felt a little better.  I haven’t thrown up any more today.  Hopefully I am on the mend.
Someone from the school called about 11:30 and said that Danny was complaining about his eyes hurting.  Joe went to see what the problem was.  His eyes weren’t red at all.  Joe gave him some allergy medicine, and Danny went back to class.
Joe picked the kids up from school this afternoon.  The kids went up to play with the Luther kids.  Joe went and picked up some manaiche (Lebanese cheese pizza) for supper.  Just as we were sitting down for supper, the power went off.  It was off last night too for several hours.  This is the dry season, and most of the electricity comes from the Volta River Dam.  We will probably have more “load shedding” until the rainy starts in May or June.

We had a good day at church. Gilbert, Danny, and Bonnie took turns leading songs in Sunday School.  I had twenty-five in my class this morning, and my helper came. The auditorium service finished before we did today; that does not happen very often.
The evening service went well with seventeen in attendance.  Joe preached a good message about being spiritually blind.  When Bonnie heard him say, “Blinded by riches,” she said, “Mom, my teacher told me about that – the rich, young ruler is what she called it.”
When we got home from church, we had just turned the fans and AC on when the power went off.  We have the generator going.

This morning, Joe headed out for Bible Clubs with Dan.  They had about eighty kids and ten adults who listened to the Bible story at the first Bible Club.  There wasn’t anyone at the second location.  There were funerals at the third and fourth locations.
The kids and I did some cleaning.  Then, the kids did their homework.
We had over sixty at the Bible Club in our yard today.  When it came time to pass out the candy, I got mobbed.  I kept telling them to sit down or they would not get any candy.  After several tries, I just put the candy away and told them that if they did not want to listen, that they would not get any candy.  Joe had just gotten home.  He went out there and made everyone sit down.  He talked to them all for several minutes.  We will see if anyone shows up for Bible Club next week.  : )
We had a picnic with the Luthers this afternoon.  I was busy making things for that this morning.  I tried a new cake recipe.  I also made potato salad and baked beans.  Joe had a grill made for the fire pit.  He put the hotdogs on that tonight.  It worked pretty well.  Only a couple hotdogs fell through; he just rinsed them off and put them back on the grill.
The kids had a good time with the Luther kids.  They used a piece of charcoal as war paint.  It looked like we had a few Indians running around out there.  Thumper enjoyed running around with the kids.

The kids were glad that this was the last day of school for the week.  They always ask, “How many days until play day?”
I got a few things done around the house.  Then, Joe took me into town to get my hair cut.  This was the first time that I have had someone here in Takoradi cut it.  She cut it a little differently than normal, but it will grow.  We went to the grocery store and then went out to eat for lunch.  We headed home and got things unloaded.  Then, Joe went to get the kids from school.
Bonnie was back in the office today.  That girl!  The first time was for talking, and the second time was for not paying attention.  She said that they just talked to her.  I think there were several talkers who all went to the office together.
The kids changed their clothes and went outside to play with the Luther kids.  The Luthers are planning to move in a week.  The kids will miss having them around.
This evening after I finished the dishes, I played a game with the kids.  The Luthers gave us a couple games that they were getting rid of.  So, we had to figure out one of those.
Bonnie was chewing a piece of gum.  She has been known to spit it out in a place other than the trash.  So, I asked her where she put her gum.  She said, “In the rubber.”  She meant “rubbish.”  That is the word that they use for trash here.
